New York tests students in English Language Arts and math every year in grades 3-8, with science in grades 5 and 8, all written to the Next Generation Learning Standards. In high school, Regents Examinations are given at the end of courses such as Algebra I, Living Environment or Life Science: Biology, and U.S. History and Government.
New York State Grades 3-8 Tests and Regents Examinations, run by the New York State Education Department (NYSED).
The grades 3-8 tests are taken on computer, with paper used for some accommodations and alternate-language editions. ELA and math are given in two sessions on two consecutive days, and science in one session, during a spring window (April to mid-May in 2026). The tests are untimed: students who are working productively may have the time they need within the school day. Regents Exams are offered in January, June and August.
Under current rules, a Regents diploma requires passing four Regents Exams (ELA, math, science and social studies) plus one pathway assessment, generally at a score of 65, along with 22 credits. In September 2026 the Board of Regents advanced the NY Inspires plan for a single diploma starting with the class of 2028, under which students would no longer need to pass Regents Exams to graduate, though the exams would continue. Regulations are still being finalized, so check NYSED for the rules that apply to your child's graduating class.
Set New York in your profile and everything is written to New York's standards and test style.
Worksheets on any New York standard, at the right grade, with an answer key. Regenerate at an easier or harder level for small groups.
Make a worksheet βPractice tests and quizzes that mix the question types students will see, with answer keys, ready to print or share.
Make a practice test βIn the parent-managed study portal, students practice in the real test style with hints, while parents keep answers behind a PIN.
See the study portal βBecause the grades 3-8 tests are untimed, stamina and careful reading matter more than speed. Short daily practice reading a passage and writing a few sentences with evidence is the best preparation. The study portal generates New York-style ELA passages with questions, math practice with written explanations and, for older students, Regents-style review, with answers locked behind your parent PIN.
Build Regents review sets and grades 3-8 practice with the test generator: multiple choice plus constructed response written to the Next Generation Learning Standards, with an answer key and rubric-style marking points. It is also a quick way to make January and June Regents review packets by unit.
