MCAS is the Massachusetts state test, written to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Students take ELA and math in grades 3-8 and grade 10, science and technology/engineering in grades 5 and 8 and once in high school, and a civics test in grade 8.
Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS), run by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
MCAS is taken on computer in spring windows: ELA from late March, then math and STE in late April and May, with high school science also offered earlier in the year. The tests are untimed, so students have as much time as they need within a regular school day.
Since the November 2024 ballot question, passing MCAS is no longer required to graduate. Students now meet the state's Competency Determination through coursework certified by their district. MCAS still runs for every student and its results are still reported to families and schools. DESE is also revising the tests: new grades 3-8 ELA and grades 5 and 8 STE tests are planned to go live in spring 2027.
Set Massachusetts in your profile and everything is written to Massachusetts's standards and test style.
Worksheets on any Massachusetts standard, at the right grade, with an answer key. Regenerate at an easier or harder level for small groups.
Make a worksheet βPractice tests and quizzes that mix the question types students will see, with answer keys, ready to print or share.
Make a practice test βIn the parent-managed study portal, students practice in the real test style with hints, while parents keep answers behind a PIN.
See the study portal βMCAS results still matter even without the graduation requirement: they show where your child stands against the Massachusetts frameworks and can help you and the school decide where extra support is needed. Essay questions are where many students lose points, so practice writing a short response that uses evidence. The study portal generates MCAS-style reading, math and science practice with model answers your child can compare against.
Generate MCAS-style practice with the test generator: multiple choice, short answer and an essay prompt aligned to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, with an answer key. For grade 8, build civics practice that pairs a short source with questions, and for STE make data-and-diagram questions that do not need a lab.
