What this whole-class feedback template is for
Whole-class feedback replaces long written comments on every paper. You read the stack once, note what went well and the mistakes that come up again and again, and then spend part of the next lesson reteaching those points and giving students time to improve their work.
This one-page, landscape template has a box for each part of that process, so the sheet you fill in while reading becomes the slide or handout you use with the class.
What's on the template
- Class, assignment, date and standard or objective
- What went well, with room for names to praise
- Common misconceptions to reteach
- Spelling, vocabulary and conventions errors seen across the class
- Model answer or exemplar sentence
- Students to check in with, and an improvement task
How to use it
- Read the work without writing in it. Jot names and examples in the boxes as you go.
- Group repeated errors: if five students made the same mistake, it is one teaching point, not five comments.
- Write or copy a short model answer that shows what good looks like for this task.
- In the next lesson, share the sheet, reteach the main misconception and give the class time to revise their work.
- Use the names box to check in with individuals who need more support or more challenge.
Example of a filled-in section
Example: an 8th grade history paragraph on the causes of the American Revolution.
Each box names a pattern across the class, so one lesson of reteaching can fix it for everyone.
Tips from the classroom
- Keep the sheet short. Three strengths and three misconceptions are plenty for one lesson of feedback.
- Always give improvement time in the lesson. Feedback students do not act on changes very little.
- Ask students to make their revisions in a different color so you can see the improvement at a glance.
- Check your school's grading policy: many now accept whole-class feedback in place of individual written comments.

What is whole-class feedback?
A way of giving feedback where the teacher reads a set of work, records the common strengths and errors on one sheet, and feeds back to the whole class, followed by time for students to improve their work, instead of writing individual comments on every piece.
Does whole-class feedback replace grading?
It replaces most written comments, not every check. You still read every piece, and you may still record grades or individual notes where your school requires them.
Can I use it for any subject?
Yes. The boxes work for essays, math problems, science write-ups or practical work. Rename them in the Word version if your subject needs different headings.
Can LessonHQ make the feedback sheet for me?
Yes. The feedback sheet generator turns your notes on the class's work into a ready-to-display sheet with strengths, targets, misconceptions, a model answer and follow-up tasks.
