Differentiated worksheet generator for IEPs and ELLs

One topic, every student in the room: tiered questions on one sheet, an accessibility mode with a dyslexia-friendly layout, and language support, with a full answer key. Ready in about a minute.

The same ambitious goal, different routes to it

Writing three versions of every worksheet is one of the biggest time costs in teaching a mixed class. It also risks giving some students a thinner version of the lesson. The worksheet generator does it the other way round: everyone works on the same topic and the same objective, and the support, scaffolding and challenge change around them.

Keep the goal the same for everyone and adjust how students get there, in line with their IEPs, 504 plans and English language level. You choose how much support each sheet carries, and you can edit every question before it is printed.

Four switches on the worksheet generator

Ability level

Mixed, Support, Core or Challenge: sets the overall pitch of the sheet.

Differentiated (3 tiers)

Adds a Support and a Stretch version of every question to one sheet, so each group gets the right tier from the same page.

IEP / accessibility mode

Simpler language, step-by-step instructions, sentence starters, more visual support and a dyslexia-friendly layout, with the option to pitch the work at a lower working level.

ELL support

A key vocabulary glossary, plain sentences, sentence frames and word banks, with the subject objective unchanged.

Good to know

  • The worksheet is a first draft: read it with your students in mind, and change anything that does not fit their plans.
  • Never type students' names or diagnoses into the worksheet generator; describe the support you want instead.
  • Exports are editable in Word and Google Docs, so you can enlarge text, change fonts or add your own symbols.
  • For a social story, visual schedule or Now and Next board, use the visual supports generator.

One question, three tiers

How a 5th grade science question on the water cycle looks on a three-tier sheet.

TierQuestion
SupportFill in the gaps using the word bank (evaporation, condensation, precipitation): The sun heats water and it turns into vapor. This is called ______.
CoreExplain what happens to water during evaporation and condensation.
StretchExplain why puddles dry faster on a hot, windy day than on a cold, still one. Use the words evaporation and temperature.

Questions teachers ask

What does "3 tiers" give me?

One worksheet where every question has an easier Support version and a harder Stretch version of the same task, so each group in a mixed-ability class works on the same content at the right level, from one sheet.

What does IEP / accessibility mode change?

It keeps the same content and grade level but adds scaffolds: simpler language, step-by-step instructions, sentence starters, stronger visual support and a dyslexia-friendly document layout. You can also pitch the work at a lower working level while the topic stays age-appropriate.

Does it help English learners?

Yes. ELL support adds a key vocabulary glossary, plain concrete sentences, sentence frames and word banks, and strong visual support, while the subject objective stays the same.

Can I combine them?

Yes. The switches work together, so you can make a three-tier sheet that also has accessibility scaffolds and ELL support for one class.

Does it come with answers?

Every worksheet comes with a full answer key. For middle school and above you can also add a literacy section and mark-the-answer tasks.
